Lacey Bryant lives in the SF bay area where she paints almost every day. Her expressive oil paintings capture haunting narratives between her subjects. Characters inhabit a realm of strange, nostalgic sweetness with undercurrents of darkness and mystery. When Lacey isn’t painting, she likes to go hiking, knit, play with her cat, Hecubus and eat cupcakes.
This ambitious new body of work includes painting done in anticipation of, and during an artist’s residency atChalk Hill in Healdsburg, CA, where Lacey escapes from her downtown San Jose studio into the Sonoma outdoors to work en plein aire. These new works reflect on the desire to run away and search for freedom, to a place where nostalgic twilight and silent country landscapes beckon ourEscape.
