This piece is a bit of an homage to Yoshitaro Nara's sad/mad/mean girls. When I saw his exhibit at Asia Society in NYC some years ago, I was struck by the title of one piece, "Oh! My God! I Miss You." It's subject appears in my own painting here as a little button/pin.
This summer we almost lost our dog to a coyote attack. My daughter was instrumental in saving his life. This is the inspiration for this painting, as we all imagined the unimaginable: losing our pup. We know someday this painting will be depict a reality, but for now, it is only a bittersweet imagining of that sad day.
