Lana Pineda Köhn is a fine artist currently based in San Francisco, CA. She comes from a diverse background of cultures and heritages including Indigenous Mexican, Spanish, Norwegian, and Celtic roots. She received her Bachelors in Fine Art in 2014 and has been working within the art industry ever since.
Her current work is an exploration of her cultural identity and what it means to be a mixed race woman in the modern world. As a child, she often felt a disconnect with her background and was unsure of what and how she identified with it. Her artwork has become her means of bridging that gap and reinterpreting these backgrounds in ways that resonate within a contemporary context.
Her most recent paintings are reimaginings of folklore, mythology or deities from each of her heritage's native ideology that emphasize the connections they still embody between her current life and her ancestors.
Her work aims to inspire others to examine their relationship with their ancestry as well as contribute to the dialogue of cultural identity for those who come from mixed and multiple backgrounds.
