Jessica Violetta, b. 1986 is an American visual artist and surface designer focusing on work that empowers feminine expression and inner truth.
Growing up in New Jersey, halfway between New York City and Philadelphia, Jessica was influenced by her family’s Italian American culture and the awe of the Roman Catholic Church. But also by the feeling of safety amidst the tall trees surrounding her home, like a familiar blanket for her adventure-seeking soul.
In her work, Jessica uses illustrative paintings to explore the dark romantic space where living in a feminine body overlaps with the expectations of a womxn in this society. Confident but haunted subjects are enveloped in nature like a sanctuary that holds and mirrors their experience while symbols of threats and vulnerability undulate in the reality of their coexistence.
Jessica received a BFA in Illustration from California College of the Arts in San Francisco where she then worked as an in-house textile designer for Pottery Barn upon graduation. She has since returned back to New Jersey where she currently works full time from her home studio, balancing freelance projects and personal work.
