E.E. Kono is a Los Angeles based artist. She has a BA in art history from the University of Iowa and studied art history at the University of Hull in England. Kono practices the ancient techniques of silverpoint drawing and egg tempera painting. Exhibits include group shows at La Luz de Jesus Gallery, Riverside Art Museum, Torrance Art Museum, Gallery 825, Modern Eden, and Wow x Wow.
Raised in Dubuque, Iowa, Kono spent her formative summers exposed to the global community of her parents' graduate housing. In her twenties she traveled throughout the world, working as an international flight attendant. While raising her daughter, she focused on children’s literature. She became an award-winning author/illustrator and has published over a dozen picture books. Among other honors, Kono’s books have received the Excellence in a Picture Book Award from the Children’s Literature Council, been named Best Lullaby and Goodnight Book by Nick, Jr. Magazine and have been selected for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Her clientele includes top trade publishers and national magazines. Since 2016 Kono has concentrated on her fine art practice. She is currently working on upcoming solo shows at Gallery 825 (November 2020) and La Luz de Jesus (May 2021).
