The 20/20 Projectis an exciting collaboration group show featuring some of our favorite contemporary artists working with a fellow artist to create one unique vision.Collaboration—or joint production by two artists—is a common style among musicians and performance artists. It has not been as popular in the world of art, and especially in modern art. But the strong sense of individualism long possessed by artists of fine art is being set aside for this dynamic project.
Bec Winnel is an accomplished Australian illustrator and artist. Winnel’s portraiture combines the illustrative precision of a graphic artist with the sophistication and emotiveness of a painter. The ethereal quality of the her work is the result of carefully accreted layers of pencil, pastel and washes of paint.
Winnel’s work is delicate and otherworldly, and seems to border on the immaterial. Her imagery emerges from the surface like a dream state: soft, plush, and seemingly on the brink of dissolving into thin air. The artist’s subject’s are beautiful, and explore the haunting of femininity, romanticism, nature and a tendency towards aesthetic nostalgia.
Her pieces are rendered in a palette of candy pastel hues, with a gossamer like delicacy. Hyperreal and uncannily executed, the seduction of the imagery is ultimately contemporary and odes to feminine beauty that combine nostalgia with timeliness, hyperrealism with stylistic license – hovering seductively in the realm of dream.
Winnel is represented by Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City US, a member of PRISMA Artist Collective and an advocate with Element Eden.
Alex Louisa graduated with a degree in Journalism and Creative Writing, before the need to create firmly pulled her attention back to her art. Having worked as a graphic artist for eight years, she now focuses solely on her personal work.
In 2008 she had her first solo exhibition at Jugglers Art Space in Brisbane, and has been involved in a number of group shows throughout Australia since then. Her work is now reaching an international audience as a member of the PRISMA Collective, showing with a selection of 30 artists from around the world. Her work has been published in Curvy and Semi-Permanent.
Often experimenting with mixed media, especially in the backgrounds of her works, Alex mainly works with drawing materials or oils, currently with a shift towards larger works. She focuses on elements of the natural world that grab her attention - discovering the intricacies of a leaf or flower, or trying to capture an animal's individual personality, especially those of the avian kind.
Alex grabs every moment she can to work on her artwork, throwing herself into her painting or drawing any moment that her twin baby boys are asleep.
