Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to present Le Chat Noir, an invitational group exhibition inspired by La Belle Époque. In particular, imagery inspired by Steinlen’s iconic Le Chat Noir poster art. The month of October also presents a unique opportunity for our participating artists to explore the historic influence of the black cat in this, a distinctly Parisian way.
Syd Bee is a graduate of Cornish College of the Arts in 2013. She lives and works in Seattle, where she can be found painting while surrounded by a library of fairy tales, comic books, collectable oddities, and a Persian cat. Syd Bee’s interest in folklore, femininity, youth, and the bizarre fuel her passion to create work which captures figures in a dreamy moment. She uses softness in application and color to suggest sweetness in spite of a creeping despondence. Bee’s figures appear melancholy and at odds with unseen forces. Through her explorations, perhaps one day these characters may overcome their circumstances.
