Julia Lundman is both a traditional artist and seasoned commercial artist in San Francisco, creating paintings and drawings inspired by myth, folklore and fantasy.
Julia graduated from the American Academy of Art in downtown Chicago in 1993. She began her professional career as a background painter at Calabash Animation, a traditional animation studio representing General Mills, and designed on two independent short films, "Heads Will Roll" (Dir. Wayne Brejcha) and visual art direction on "Stubble Trubble" (Dir. Joe Merideth), nominated for an Academy Award in 2000 in the Animated Shorts category.
Her experience brought her to San Francisco to work in games at Electronic Arts, Zynga, and Disney Interactive, where she Art Directed mobile game "Kitchen Scramble". After which, she Art Directed three seasons of the animated tv series, “Disney Junior's Whisker Haven Tales with the Palace Pets", (Disney Plus) created and produced at Ghostbot in San Francisco. She also illustrated a Little Golden Book for the Palace Pets.
During all the years of working in commercial studios, she studied after hours and on weekends at traditional ateliers and took many workshops near and far in the pursuit of learning traditional painting. She is now developing her work independently with a focus on the dark side of hidden worlds.
Her work has been published in Infected by Art, volumes 8, 9, 10 and 11, and Imagine FX magazine.
